We stopped by Rhodee’s Floral & Greenhouse the day after Mother’s Day — a day Mindy lovingly calls their “Super Bowl.” Even in the middle of their busiest week of the year, the Rhodee family welcomed us in, shared their history, and reminded us why this business is such a cornerstone of Oconomowoc.
Rhodee’s is one of the rare floral businesses that operates both a full floral shop and a greenhouse. That dual identity has been part of their DNA since 1922, when Mindy’s grandparents, Art and Gladys, first opened the doors. At that time, the neighborhood around them didn’t even exist yet. The business grew alongside the city, eventually passing to Ken and Connie, and now to the third and fourth generations.
Mindy shared memories of growing up in the shop — working, helping, and contributing to the family business as a natural part of everyday life. Today, the fourth generation of Rhodees is beginning to do the same, continuing a tradition more than a century in the making. These are deep roots, in every sense.
